Have been thinking a lot about compassion. Do you think that having compassion really means having hope for others? Or to put it in another way, are the hopes for others not your own one, or entangled with those for yourself?
.
The word resonates within me and makes me think of the companion. Etymologically unrelated, I find out, all right, but they share the c o m. To share, to partake, to walk a bit together. Translated into German, companion is in Kumpel, and the Kumpel is also the one who goes underground with you and toils in the mountains, who runs out of air with you, whose hands get dirty with yours, whose knees break with yours. The one who looks with you to see if the canary is still singing.
